ART 353v | Color Photography
A lecture and laboratory course in the conceptual, aesthetic and technical possibilities and principles of color photography and digital technology. Particular attention will be given to color photography and digital technology as a medium of personal expression that reveals the students’ impressions and experiences in Mexico so as to heighten cultural awareness and understanding. Students will investigate color photographic theory as it applies to the practice of making pictures, including the basics of camera operation, proper image exposure of color film and digital capture, as well as an introduction to digital imaging, including image scanning and storage strategies, image manipulation, color correction, and digital photographic printing. Digital camera and/or access to a 35mm camera is required. Fulfills the Core Curriculum requirement for Fine Art.

Course Objectives
This class is designed to communicate to the student Greater understanding of how to look at, interpret and discuss the conceptual and aesthetic attributes that articulate the photographic meaning of a color photograph. Discussion will explore both historical and contemporary photographic practice, the aesthetic and technical considerations of color photography and the critical issues raised by such practice. We will learn how to properly operate the camera and print color photographs with both technical and artistic concerns in mind. We will carefully interpret and think critically about the images we make and see, and in order to better understand them we will find their place within the historical traditions of color photographic imagery.

Academic Integrity
