My photography is mostly of people in my life. Mostly because they are easy to get a hold of because they are always around. I love capturing images of places that people highly take pictures of but i like to take a picture that is highly different from anyone else.

I post most the images i share on Flickr I signed up for Dig 1 and i grew to love the site.

I view a lot of photos online from places like Flickr, deviantart, and from facebook. I also look at photos in magazines like AP Magazine

My need to create photographs stems from my infatuation with the human struggle. I had a great sense of vocabulary and communication skills at a very young age. I was one of those annoying kids who was always asking questions, many of which, I learned, have no true answer. Life has never made any sense to me, so I started trying to make sense of my curiosity by writing. After high school I decided to take photography and quickly realized I can translate the visions in my mind through pictures, instead of always using words. Writing and photography combined has helped me keep the demons at bay. Sometimes I confront them, sometimes I kill them with beautiful images. Mostly I believe that art should inspire people to ask questions about the world they live in, and the how they live in it.

My photographs from photo 1 and photo 2 can be found framed and displayed at my mom, my grandma and my friends' houses. I used my two younger sisters as models because they both have very striking features. My best friend Shannon and my ex boyfriend also modeled for me and both use the photographs in their house, and Corey used my photo as his band's album cover. Also, I have about 10 photographs displayed on my facebook and myspace. My goal this year is to launch an online magazine I created last January. I am going to promote people and organizations who help others. I'd like to show my photography and writing in my online magazine, as well as promote other artists.

I do not search the internet for photography as much as I look at magazines. Nylon, National Geographic, Vogue, Time, W, etc... I always cut out photos I like and use them for decoupaging the covers of notebooks and styrofoam mannequin heads. The photographs which inspire me the most include female models who appear out of place, yet still convey a sense of beauty, the kind of picture that makes me ask myself, Who is this girl? Where does she come from? What makes her beautiful?

My photography is compiled from many different interests that I have. I do spend a lot of time when out with my friends documenting the silly things we get into, then post to facebook, more so as a record of our adventures. On a more serious level I am obsessed with capturing the people and the places that I visit around the world, not just as a mental record for myself, but as a means of representing my journey through life and what this world has to show me. Since starting the Photography program here at Grossmont, I feel as if I am focusing on more Anthropological aspects as well as focusing on my attention to detail. I share my images with friends and family for the most part.

The only place I post my images on the internet is on Facebook. I post friends, travel, and my digitally captured work there because it is easy and it isn't imperative to have my work circulating around everywhere. I enjoy the feedback.

I enjoy going to different museums and galleries to look for great photographs. I feel as if I am in the same room as the work I can get a better feel for what the photographer is trying to convey for it is in the full size and arrangement that the photographer has chosen, or had a major hand in. There is a stronger connection to the works when they are "tangible" and you can choose how close or how far away to view them. Reviews, word of mouth, local newspapers or magazines that have the current exhibits are my sources for these venues.

Photography has always been an interest. Setting photo sets as a child in my year with a basic 35mm camera and using friends and my sister as subjects was something I enjoyed. As I grew older, I continued capturing highlights of my life with a camera. In the past three years, I began to question the course of my of future and what made me happy. I work in a corporate environment and although I have tenor in a great company, it seems like something was always lacking. It wasn’t until I decided I wanted to try my hand at digital photography that I felt like this was meant to do.

Now, as a student of photography, it’s not always about understanding each photograph. It’s about absorbing what you see and how others may view the subject, composition, and technique. Photography is fluid. You can slightly alter one attribute and you can severely alter the story. At this stage, I want to continue to learn techniques, build industry relationships and be open to taking my photography skills to the next level. I have started doing side projects on the weekends to help build my portfolio, including corporate business occasions, engagement sessions and weddings.

Photography is about capturing celebrated occasions or sometimes the ugly of life that no one expects to see. Being able to catch a shot on how I felt. Was I happy, sad, was this a moment I would always remember or was it a moment, that had I not captured would soon disappear from my memory.

I have utilized various platforms to display my photography: MySpace, Facebook, Flikr and a personal blog. I share everything from school assignments and projects, personal photographs of my life and most recently a 365 project, capturing one photo of the day that depicts a moment from my day, thought of the day, or self-portrait. I am open to hearing feedback, watching which type of photo brings the most responses, as well as notating photos I want to take in the future.

I visit various websites to view photography and images; things I see on the news, blogs of amateur photography, friends on Flikr pages to learn and absorb their point of view. I wouldn’t say I have static criteria to find photographers as it is a learning experience to view all types. Although I may feel comfortable in shooting my own preferences, you can still learn and appreciate all types of photography.

For me, my photography has multiple functions there are some pieces of mine that are done because i want to show the viewer an image, one i think the viewer needs to see, in other cases it is not the image itself but the feeling it evokes that i am trying to convey to the viewer. There is a third type of my photography that is done for art sake, simply aesthetics. As an aspiring professional photographer I of course want to show my work to potential clients. As an artist i want to show my work to people who will appreciate it, and as myself i like to show my work to friends and family to receive input and lets be honest a little praise.

Currently with the exception of a very small mostly personal collection all of my work is being displayed only online. Because of this and the business aspect my work is displayed on several sites (deviantart.com, Facebook, Myspace, Modelmayhem) i also have a photoblog from a series i did this summer through blogspot.com and in addition to my commercial Facebook page for my photography i also display photography on my personal page. On the site modelmayhem.com i display only the model part of my portfolio, on facebook, deviantart, and myspace i display all of my commerical portfolio, and on my personal facebook and blogspot.com sites i display more personal photography which includes my photo documentation of my trips (photo journalism is a huge hobby of mine). I also have an actual site for my photography that is still under construction, honestly keeping my work current on all of these sites is super time consuming so i would really like to pull back to one to a limited few sites so my work can be easily accessed and displayed and easier managed by me.

With the exception of MOPA in San Diego the only place i look for/see photography is online, other than looking for photography on deviantart and model mayhem i know several local photographers that i view work through and receive recommendations through but most of the work i view i find by word of mouth or by reading photo articles at which point i will usually Google the photographers name to try and find work from their portfolio. Typically i tend to search out photographers similar to myself as far as content and vision typically i will search for either a name or content such as "James Natchwey" or "photojournalism" or "Americana".
